A boy at the Crofton Country Club pool didn’t clear the diving board and the hit the back of his head. Local Ladder 7 rushed him to a local medical center with minor injuries.

A boy was rushed to an area medical center after hitting the back of his head in a diving accident at the Crofton Country Club.

Swimming pool lifeguard Neil Donahue said the accident happened around 4:50 p.m. He said the boy is 10 years old.

“I was sitting in the primary lifeguard chair when he walked toward the end of the [diving] board,” said Donahue. “He must not have walked down far enough to clear it.”

Donahue said the boy attempted to dive and came down on the board, striking the back of his head.

“He was in the water and said, ‘my head hurts, my head hurts,’” Donahue said. He helped get the little boy out of the water and safely to the poolside.

Donahue said he worked to keep the boy’s head stabilized as another lifeguard went to call 911.

Arundel Volunteer Fire Department officials tell Crofton Patch emergency medical technicians responded to the non-emergency call. The Ladder 7 EMTs transported the boy to an area medical center.
