China’s submersible jiaolong completes fourth test dive

China’s deep-diving manned submersible Jiaolong has successfully completed its fourth test dive Saturday, according to the republic’s State Oceanic Administration (SOA).

The administration described Saturday’s mission as a complete success.

However it did not say how deep the submersible went in the fourth dive.

In its previous three dives, Jiaolong reached a depth of 5,188 metres, SOA said in statement.

Jiaolong, which is named after a legendary sea dragon, was designed to reach a depth of 7,000 metres.

China is the fifth country to send people more than 3500 metres below sea level, following the United States, France, Russia and Japan.
