Tranent blacksmith’s tribute to friend

A blacksmith/artist from East Lothian has forged a lasting legacy to his close friend who died in a diving accident in June.

Craig Inglis, founder of Tranent-based FBS Metalworks, was commissioned by the North Berwick in Bloom team to create a striking new focal point for the busy town centre, and has included a small personal tribute to his colleague Graeme Rae Mackie.

Mr Mackie (31) lost his life in a diving accident in the Firth of Forth near Methil Docks in Fife shortly before the project was finished.

Craig has custom designed a 2.5 metre steel seat which was hand forged to fit around a historic tree in Quality Street, North Berwick.

The 29-year-old former pupil of Ross High School in Tranent has included the initials G.R.M at the foot of one of its three porthole plaques in memory of his pal who was also from Tranent.
